Benefits and taxes:

To make sure your money goes as far as possible, it's a good idea to make sure you're getting all the benefits you are entitled to and only paying the taxes and contributions you need to.

The Learn My Way team have connected up with Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) service to bring you everything you need to know about their services - it isn't just tax returns and PAYE codes!

You can follow the links below to find out more about the services HMRC offers, the benefits you could be entitled to and which taxes apply to you. Being armed with a little know-how about what you should be getting and what you need to be paying can make you better off all round.

Benefits and taxes - Child benefit and tax credits:

On this training you'll find loads of useful information about which benefits Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) look after, as well as some links that will help you find out more, including how to claim the benefits you're entitled to.

Child Benefit payments are available for all those responsible for a child under the age of 16 and, in some cases, up to age 20. Only one person can claim per child - you can find out more from GOV.UK.

Working Tax Credits offer a little extra support to make sure you're better off in work than out of it. Check the tax credit calculator below to work out how much you could get. Then go to the GOV.UK page for details of how to claim:

Child Tax Credits support those on a low income with children. This can can be claimed in addition to Child Benefit and you don't have to be working to qualify. The links below will take you to two different parts of the GOV.UK website - one to check if you qualify for tax credits, and one to find out how to claim them.
