Overall approach to functional skills:
Our centre has a central team of staff responsible for the delivery of key, basic and functional skills. At least one functional skills teacher is based in each vocational area of the college, and over the years, they have built up their knowledge of the vocational contexts in which they are working, and have developed strong relationships with their subject specialist colleagues. In addition, subject specialists who develop literacy and numeracy skills with adults and hard-to-reach learners in the community are also participating in the third year of the pilot.
